I’m Angela Lara, a fine-art wedding and portrait photographer based in Virginia Beach, Virginia. My story with photography began in my first semester of college—in my very first class, Photography 101. I realized then, that I wanted to be a photographer—photographing people, especially people in love.
I grew up watching the old romantic black and white classics, including Pride and Prejudice and wondering how my own love story would unfold. I loved everything about the cinematic photography: how emotion and special moments were captured to the creative composition and different mediums used. I continued to learn the technical side of how to use a camera and went on to take other courses in photography.
I finished college with a degree in business, planning one day to own my own business. I continued photography and my other hobbies, one of which was horseback riding. My obsession with horses finally led me to buy my very own beloved horse, Phoenix. While busy with my horse and my job, I continued photographing friends and family, continuing to learn everything I could about photography. After years of being a single, yet hopeless romantic, I married my best friend and better half, John, in 2014. We settled down in the suburbs of Virginia Beach along with all of my adorable cats and hound dogs, Nelly and Penny. Finding myself happily married and personally fulfilled, I finally took a leap of faith and left my long-term employer and began my own photography business.
The ultimate goal for me, as a photographer, is to document and curate classic and clean images of couples in love that will be cherished for generations. Using natural light to capture candid moments provides my clients with a complete unadulterated depiction of their own love story. As a natural light photographer, I love the outdoors, especially the beach and authentic historical settings. People are my favorite subjects, especially in the beautiful nature God has provided as a canvas. There is a verse in Scripture that says..."I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.'" People are wonderful and I love being a part of making memories of God's most amazing creation.
